Meet Our Fabulous Gymnastics Coaches
All our staff are fully vaccinated, have passed their NSW working with children check and hold current first aid qualifications.
TAMZIN McSWEENEY
Owner & Programme Director
Tamzin is the founder and programme director and is extremely passionate about child development through gymnastics. She relocated to Sydney with a vision to build the sport of gymnastics and improve young children's movement vocabulary through basic gymnastic skills. She is a qualified International Women's Artistic Gymnastics coach (FIG level 1) and holds an Advanced Coaching Accreditation through Gymnastics Australia.
KRISTINA KNAGGS
Team Leader
Kristina, a Newtown local and mother of two, brings a diverse background to her role as our team leader. Previously a competitive gymnast in England, and most recently a Primary School Teaching Assistant, gaining valuable insights into child development. Kristina is passionate about using gymnastics to benefit children both in and out of the gym. She loves creating a supportive environment for our coaches and building a strong local community at Gymkidz.
CAITLIN SO
Assistant Manager and Senior Coach
Caitlin has a passion for sports and movement, her love for sport has led her to various sporting competitions for hockey, karate and basketball. This passion led her to coaching various primary and high school teams in hockey. She is dedicated to her role as a coach, driven by her love for the sport, and hopes to create a space for children to make memorable experiences. Along with coaching at Gymkidz, Caitlin is currently studying to be a social worker at UNSW where she hopes to be able to work with children & vulnerable communities.
VERONICA CALEFATI
Senior Coach
Veronica has had a passion for health and exercise from a young age. She has vast experience working with children and is passionate about creating a fun, encouraging, and engaging environment for kids to learn. In addition to working at Gymkidz, Veronica is currently studying a Bachelor of Social Work at Sydney Uni, and enjoys powerlifting.
Maria Argyrous
Recreation & Kindergym Coach
Maria is passionate about working with children and has devoted over three years to coaching gymnastics. Her aim is to empower children, helping them take pride in their progress and hard work. Maria creates a supportive environment where her gymnasts feel resilient and capable. Alongside her coaching, she is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Sydney.
ADJANI ZAHRA (AJ) AFIEF
Recreation & Kindergym Coach
AJ's passion for sports and coaching runs deep. Prior to relocating to Sydney, she actively engaged in social work and coaching for Jakarta's local children, alongside competitive participation in volleyball and youth gymnastics for South Jakarta. Presently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney, supported by an Elite Athlete Program Scholarship, as she represents NSW Volleyball.
CLARE LANGFORD
Recreation & Kindergym Coach
Clare was a competitive gymnast in Canberra and overseas for many years. She is passionate about developing students’ abilities and prioritises kids having fun and feeling confident in themselves to reach their full potential! In addition to working at Gymkidz, Clare is completing a degree in Law at the University of Wollongong.
ALICE - HO YEE LAM
Recreation & Kindergym Coach
Alice is a passionate gymnast who has trained in WAG for over 15 years in Hong Kong and is currently training and competing in TeamGym locally in NSW. Alice has been participating in gymnastics and track and field events from a young age. Alice loves creating a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere for her gymnasts to excel. Beyond her role at Gymkidz, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney and is an assistant coach with Sydney Uni Gymnastics.
GEORGIA DUGGAN
Recreation & Kindergym Coach
Georgia brings years of gymnastics experience from a young age, including participation in state competitions. Georgia enjoys supporting children's development and watching their growth week by week. Known for her approachable and nurturing personality, she loves to create engaging and enjoyable classes. Her goal is to pass on new gymnastics skills to children while ensuring they have fun!
LYRIA REAVILL
Recreation & Kindergym Coach
Lyria brings a rich gymnastics background to our team, having been a competitive gymnast in England since the age of 4. Alongside her 6 siblings, she developed a deep passion for the sport. Lyria is committed to being a positive role model for the next generation of gymnasts, ensuring her classes inclusive for all abilities. She has a dedication to fostering a love for gymnastics and promoting a healthy rounded lifestyle.
KYAH HUMPHRIES
Recreation & Kindergym Coach
Kyah was a competitive gymnast for many years, and holds her WAG Intermediate coaching accreditation through Gymnastics Australia. Before relocating to Newtown in February 2022, Kyah was a gymnastics instructor for over 3 years at Springloaded in Coffs Harbour. She is passionate about helping all her students reach their full potential and feel confident. Kyah is currently completing a degree in Exercise Physiology at the University of Sydney.
APRIL FORD
Junior Mentorship Coach
April is close with the Gymkidz family having grown her love for gymnastics over several years as a gymnast in our very own programme. We are proud to foster her passion for the sport and to further her new journey into coaching and child development. As well as gymnastics, April enjoys performing arts and has worked with younger children in choir, dance and drama activities. April hopes that children in her classes enjoy their experience learning new skills and having fun.
